Search In Pictures: New Column From Search Engine Land (www.gstories.com)

Last week, Barry Schwartz tried a new idea of showing what was happening in the world of search based on pictures he found on the web. You liked it enough that we’ve decided to make it a formal column called
Search In Pictures, which will run on Fridays here at
Search Engine Land. The latest column
is now out and can be found here.
Want to see all our columns? You’ll find a complete list
here.

Call For Search Engine Land Columnists (www.gstories.com)

If you’ve been a regular here at Search Engine Land, you know we’ve launched a bunch of columns over the past month or so. We have more in the works, and if you’d like to be considered as a potential contributor, read on. Specifically, I’m looking for columnists who are experts in: Video SEO - optimizing video for YouTube, AOL Video, Blinkx and other streaming video search sites In-house search marketing, especially those working with larg

Follow Search Engine Land On Twitter (www.gstories.com)

Want to get updated about news from Search Engine Land via Twitter? We have an account there, sengineland. Why not searchengineland? Too long a username, sadly. Anyway, visit that page, and if you’re logged in, use the "add sengineland" link in the white "Actions" box on the right-hand side of the page. Now you’ll get Twitters when we post a new story.
I’ve also added two Twitter options to the
FeedFlares we show from F

Feed & Information Overload? Read SearchCap! (www.gstories.com)

I was talking to someone recently who felt overwhelmed by all the search news that happens when they’re out of-touch while traveling. They’d fire up Google Reader after getting back, only to have hundreds of posts to read through. I suggested they read our SearchCap newsletter. A few weeks later, they said it made a huge difference in keeping up. So, I thought it was worth a quick reminder. We put so much time and energy into SearchCap, and

Vacation & Brief Blog Downtime (www.gstories.com)

I’m officially on vacation, back on the blog again beginning February 26. The
blog itself is also taking a very short break. Tomorrow — Saturday, February 17
– it will go offline for an hour or less at 10PM Pacific time, as we test a new
server configuration that we hope will help with our Movable Type blog
installation.
We use a lot of categories here on the blog — well over 200 — and that
tends to make things slow behind the scenes when we’re posting new entries or
making changes. The test is one of the things we’re trying to speed life up for
our blog authors.

Name The Search Engine Land Gossip Column! (www.gstories.com)

Next week, Search Engine Land’s gossip column launches. OK, so it’s less
gossip of the Valleywag style and more about
"movers and shakers" and rumors stuff. Who is moving where? Who has already
gone? What’s about to be launched that everyone’s trying to keep quiet?
We wanted to have a fun, good-spirited column to cover these types of
tidbits

Please Take Search Engine Land’s Reader Survey (www.gstories.com)

I’ve got a special request of our
Search Engine Land visitors and
SearchCap newsletter
readers. Take our reader
survey! Please? If helping us keep the lights on isn’t enough of an
incentive, we’ll toss in a chance to win a ticket to our upcoming
SMX: Search Marketing Expo event
in Seattle this June 4 & 5th.

Search Engine Land Partner Program Launched (www.gstories.com)

We’ve got a new ad program here on Search Engine Land — the
Search Engine Land
Partners Program. Since we’ve
announced it on our
parent site, I wanted to explain a bit more on how the text ad program works
(and for those already leaping to conclusions, no, it’s not a paid links for
ranking system).
Over in our right-hand navigation, you’ll see a box called "Search Engine
Land Partners." That box will contain up to ten paid text ads

Just Behave: New Column From Search Engine Land (www.gstories.com)

Our most recent Search Engine Land column, Just Behave, launches today. Just Behave focuses on search and user behavior, and will appear every Friday.

Today’s debut features Gord Hotchkiss with an exclusive interview with Google’s Marissa Mayer, who’s Vice President, Search Products & User Experience. Gord is a well-known expert on searcher behavior, the driving force behind a number of notable user eye-tracking studies and a frequent panelist and moderator on the searcher behavior panels at Search Engine Strategies.

Our third Search Engine Land column has now been launched,
Let’s Get Social.
This comes out Tuesday and covers issues relating to social media sites, such as Digg, Netscape, Reddit and StumbleUpon.

Forget
ABCs, The Social Media Alphabet Is DNSR, which provides an introduction.

Thanks everyone for all the great feedback on improving comments at Search

Comment Guidelines & Feedback Wanted On Commenting (www.gstories.com)

I love that people can comment at
Search Engine Land directly within stories. I not only want comments — I
want people to contribute links as well. I thought it would be useful to talk
more about this, plus get feedback from readers on how we can improve the
commenting system going forward.

Where’s The Date In SearchCap Emails? (www.gstories.com)

I’ve had a couple readers ask me why the emails we send out for SearchCap
don’t carry the date in the subject line. The answer is simple. Because we
can’t. Not right now. But we will in the coming weeks, promise.
SearchCap is mailed out through
FeedBurner. They have a great
system that
automatically sends out your posts via email, to those who sign-up

Link Week: New Column From Search Engine Land (www.gstories.com)

I’d like to welcome Eric Ward who kicks
off Link Week
today, a regular weekly column from Search
Engine Land. Eric’s has been both building links as a professional over the
past 14 years and educating people about the space over that time. We’re
thrilled to have him writing for us.

Link Week is the first of several other columns that will be launching on
Search Engine Land over the coming weeks. I’ll provide an introduction for each
one of them, as they launch.

Search Engine Land: December 2006 Statistics Review (www.gstories.com)

As promised,
here’s the first in regular monthly updates on how Search Engine Land is
growing. I hope the traffic statistics look will be both interesting to the curious
and informative about how various places can turn into traffic generators.

For December 2006, we had about 93,000 page views, or about 4,400 page views
per day

Portrait Of A New Site Getting On Digg (www.gstories.com)

Search Engine Land

made the Digg home page yesterday because of Neil Patel’s great article,
The New Digg Features
Plus, A Submitter’s Perspective. I’ve already
covered how as a new
site, we’re still growing our traffic. Now I’ve got a chance to show what it
means to a new site to get digged.
The picture above tells the tale

Search Engine Land Stats: December 2006 Preview (www.gstories.com)

I’ve been trained from internet birth that site stats are a precious thing,
never to be shared. Well, not trained, but somehow I got it in my head. It’s
somewhat silly, given that any site that carries advertising often reveals this
information in their media kit anyway. With Search Engine Land being all new, a
virtual restart for me, I thought it would be fun to share site stats on the
site each month, to talk about how it hopefully grows

Welcome To Search Engine Land! (www.gstories.com)

It’s official. Search Engine Land has now formally launched. I know, I know
– we’ve been posting
for over a week here. But now our new design is (mostly) in place, so it’s time
to declare ourselves fully operational. For those who are interested, here’s
some more background about the site, our name, our look, our goals and content.
