I’ve just noticed a new button in Gmail. When you mouse over a person in your contact list, a little “details” box pops up. Well, right beside the Email and Chat buttons, there’s now a Call button. According to this news story, Gmail has been opened up for anyone who speaks Japanese.
Google Inc., the world’s biggest Internet search engine, said on Wednesday it is opening the Japanese-language version of its email service to anyone who wants to sign up.
Gmail is offered in over 40 languages, but to date, Google has only opened the Australian, New Zealand and now the Japanese versions for open registration.
Even though there are lots of people with Gmail invites to spare, this move will greatly increase Gmail’s user base.
Google’s Gmail account is now available for general public without an invitation in Japan.

So if someone sends you an mp3 attached to an email, you can now play it right from within Gmail without downloading it. The interface looks kind of similar to the Google Video interface and is made in flash as well. They just keep adding stuff don’t they? If you get an mp3, just click the little play link next to the attachment and the player window will pop up. Pretty nifty.

Starting today, Google Desktop 4 is coming out of beta in 26 languages (including Romanian!); a Japanese version is now available in beta too. It’s easier than ever to search and personalize your computer no matter what language you speak. In version 4, we’ve aimed to improve Desktop’s performance and have added a few features you’ve asked for:
Easier to add international gadgets - Use the new Add/Remove gadgets interface to easily find gadgets in other languages; choose the language you want in the top right corner
Configurable Taskbar “gadgets” button - Just click the arrow to the right of the Google Desktop “gadgets” button, and hover over “Taskbar Button” to change the display - with text, or without, or remove it altogether
Change the Sidebar font size - Cick the “Options” button located at the top of the Sidebar, and hover over “Font Size” to change the setting

One thing that’s been on our list for a while now is changing the current UI for switching between one search result, more search results, and all search results. The new treatment uses three buttons that let you quickly select one, more, or all search results.
